Summary

New York Times Bestseller * National Book Award Nominee * Winner of the Edgar Award for Best Juvenile Mystery

It’s wintertime at Greenglass House. The creaky smuggler’s inn is always quiet during this season, and twelve-year-old Milo, the innkeepers’ adopted son, plans to spend his holidays relaxing.

But on the first icy night of vacation, out of nowhere, the guest bell rings. Then rings again. And again...

Soon Milo’s home is bursting with odd, secretive guests, each one bearing a strange story that is somehow connected to the rambling old house. As objects go missing and tempers flare, Milo and Meddy, the cook’s daughter, must decipher clues and untangle the web of deepening mysteries to discover the truth about Greenglass House—and themselves.

Great performance!

I read about 3/4 of the book on paperback but I got a bit bored with the pacing. I decided to listen to the last 3 hours and that changed it all for me. It was so well read that I felt sucked into the story.
The story is about this smuggler’s inn where a boy called Milo and his parents live. On Christmas break the inn is normally very quiet and Milo enjoys this break with only his family for Christmas.
It all changed when a bunch of people came to stay at the inn, all a little bit strange. This sparked the interest of Milo and he set off on the mission to uncover the reason why these people are here, with the help of his friend Meddy.
The story gripped me halfway through the book, the first half bored me and I couldn’t understand what the trend was about.
I’m so glad I decided to switch to the audio version instead of stopping to read it !
It is a very atmospheric read for the holidays that will charm a lot of people I’m sure.
