About this listen
How do you define yourself when others have already decided who you are?
Six years ago, when Camden Daniels came back from war without his younger brother, no one in the small town of Alba, Colorado, would forgive him - especially his father. He left, swearing never to return.
But a desperate message from his father brings it all back. The betrayal. The pain. And the need to go home again.
But home is where the one person he still loves is waiting. Willow. The one woman he can never have. Because there are secrets buried in Alba that are best left in the dark.
If only he could tell his heart to stay locked away when she whispers she's always loved him, and always will...
Contains mature themes.

Another amazing Rebecca Yarros book!
I’ve been on a bit of a Rebecca Yarros military readathon and this is the final book. And I loved it (maybe not as much as the other 2 but it was still amazing).
We follow Camden, an ex military soldier who after 6 years returns home when his father is diagnosed with dementia, however no one in the town wants him back. He’s the towns enemy, the one who was reckless, and the one they believe got his brother killed. They all hate him, apart from Willow. She always saw the good in Cam, ever since they were children. But now they’re grown up, but the feelings they once shared threaten to resurface.
I really enjoyed this story. We got to see so many emotions from grief of a lost one but also grief for someone that is unwell and sadly losing themself. I really liked the small town aspect of everyone knowing everyone.
I loved Willow, I loved that she stood up for what she believed in and didn’t back down when others told her to. That could have been because of Cam. He was such a rock and an empowering character. He literally didn’t care about what others thought and he proved to those who doubted him the type of man he was. I felt sorry for him to go through everything he did and still come out stronger.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story and once again I’m so happy to read Rebecca’s books and see how well of an author she really is!

Another gripping storyline from Rebecca Yarros
As the previous reviewer I read this whilst waiting for Iron Flame to be released, not really expecting a lot, but this is the 6th book of hers I have read and none of them have been found wanting. I have listened to them all more than once which is something I haven’t wanted do before. Thank the Gods for buying Fourth Wing first and getting hooked on this Author!!!

"All the precious things are lonely"
It's a gut-wrenching military romance.
A man takes on the world and doesn't crumble under all that weight...
Third Rebecca Yarros book I've read and every single one had me in my feels crying and laughing. Beautifully written, well thought out story.

Small town romance
It was supposed to be quick and fun reading. Turns out it is a bit more. A bit of spice but not too much, I would say 1/5.

Wonderful
Emotional and enchanting. You feel for Cam so much. A real ode to ‘nobody’s perfect’ and ‘looks can be deceiving’. I loved Rebecca’s fantasy books but now I see her character development is even better with the ‘real’ world. Bravo!
