Summary

What is the secret to lasting as a leader? In the words of Ken Blanchard and Mark Miller, "Our capacity to grow determines our capacity to lead.” Leadership must be a living process, and life means growth.

In Great Leaders Grow, a woman named Debbie Brewster becomes a mentor to a young man named Blake, as he embarks on his own career. Together, they explore four ways that leaders must keep growing, both on the job and off. Within their story are valuable lessons for anyone who desires both professional success and personal fulfillment.

I really couldn't get along with this book.

Having read and listened to another Mark Miller book, "The Heart of Leadership: Becoming a Leader People Want to Follow", this book was inferior and often cringy in comparison. It was really hard to follow because the "story" was so hammy, more like a soap opera. People don't talk or behave how the characters in this story do. It was so ridiculous that I had to stop listening to it several times because it was unbearable. I only finished it because I thought (hoped) there would be some redeemable takeaways at the end. There weren't. Also, this book is too heavily focused on American businesses, particularly sales and service providers. Applying many of the teachings here to other industries and companies is hard.

This is your book if you're into whimsical fictional worlds where characters speak and behave in over-the-top dramatic ways.

If you're looking for a good leadership book delivered honestly, believable, and story-driven manner, try "The Heart of Leadership: Becoming a Leader People Want to Follow".

Bunch of Nonsense

Another book made by another American author, business consultant and motivational speaker.

Feels like these people have never encountered a business setting in their life other than motivational speaking.
