About this listen
In the sixties, Briony Cavanagh ran a string of the most notorious brothels in London. Only Briony knew what went on behind those doors, and she never opened her mouth - unless she stood to benefit. Only Briony knew the painful road she'd travelled to get there. From an impoverished childhood that ended with shocking betrayal, she was determined to be mistress of her own fate. But along with success came risk and danger. And the Goodnight Lady had her own secret place that was always shadowed by loss.

Loved every minute.
I loved it even though the first few chapters are a bit horrible to hear when she is a child. The rest of the book is magnificent, the detail makes you believe you are there. Couldn't put it down

A very good crime family saga
My first Martina Cole actually.
Loved the story, loved the narrator. Touching lightly on history and on a Kray-type gangsterism, it has everything from rags to riches, and from loyalty to lust. Personalities you wouldn’t like to deal with and who’s pursuits you’d think deplorable, and yet they are likeable in their extremes.

This was the very first Martina Cole I ever read many years ago, and when I seen it I had to get it an listen to it again and yes it's still my favourite. Some of Annie's accents were dodgy but she's still a fabulous narrator love this book

Great story full of interesting characters.
This is a great story, rich with characters that you end up caring deeply about. A rags to riches story of a London family involved in the seedy side of life, who have their own set of morals and are led by and held together by a Matriarchal figure. Matina Cole knows her subject and writes a story that you can't put down, and although you long to get to the end of this families story, you are sorry when it ends.
