About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

From the bestselling author of Ghosts and Everything I Know About Love: a sharply funny, beautifully observed and exquisitely relatable story of heartbreak and friendship, and how to survive both.

Andy loves Jen. Jen loved Andy.

And he can't work out why she stopped.

Now he is. . .
1. Without a home
2. Waiting for his stand-up career to take off
3. Wondering why everyone else around him seems to have grown up while he wasn't looking

Set adrift on the sea of heartbreak at a time when everything he thought he knew about women, and flat-sharing, and his friendships has transformed beyond recognition, Andy clings to the idea of solving the puzzle of their broken relationship. Because if he can find the answer to that, then maybe Jen can find her way back to him.

Andy still has a lot to learn, not least his ex-girlfriend's side of the story.

Relatable

I found myself nodding in agreement through many of the passages dealing with the nuances of long term relationships. The subject matter was dealt with wryly but sensitively. Some laugh out loud comic writing and some heart-rending moments too. Enjoyed the male perspective. Not sure it needed Jen’s perspective at the end - I can see what it added but it was Andy’s story and I would have liked it to finish with him.

Great listen

Great story line, kept my interest, didn’t want to stop listening and you are really bought into the lives of Andy and Jen. I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times to this book due to its wittiness. The internal musings of Andy are very relatable so I can see why this book has been popular. Nice easy listen especially on cold morning walks in January as you try and ease yourself into a new year.

Sad truth of a break up.

Really clever writing. Unexpectedly a man’s voice/ point of view of the madness of rejection. Loved it. Funny, sad, too sad sometimes- hit a nerve a lot. Brilliant ending.

Alternative perspective

I loved this book. Heartbreak is only ever shared as a feminine experience, experiencing it in the male voice threw me and I absolutely could not stop.

It’s was boring

Listening to a man drool on and on about his break up.
Finally when we got to hear her side it was interesting but that was like the last hour of the book compared to hours of him.
Found it pretty boring

One of the best reads in a while

Loved the characters Dolly created, very relatable. Loved how the story unfolded and with each others view points on their relationship. A great read, laughed and cried!

Fantastic narrators

A story that was made for audio format. Brilliant narration for Andy's story and when Jen's side of it came later, the voice was perfect- just as I imagined and just as good at telling the story. A great listen.

Insight without cliches

Just brilliant. Haven’t read any others by the author but will give them a go if they’re anything like this.
