Cheater! Hmmm!
I'm not sure what to say about this book but that it is all about cheating, betrayal, repentance and forgiveness, so if cheating books aren't your jam, don't read this!
#Goalie is #3 in the #TexasMutinySeries by #MECarter and can be read as a standalone. In fact I'm pleased I didn't read the previous books, bearing in mind all the cheating Santos had been up to all these years. In this book Mariana finds out about it.
For me, personally, a betrayal of this magnitude would be unforgiveable. No matter what he did to try to redeem himself, I would always think in the back of my mind "a leopard never changes his spots" and I hate to say it but serial cheaters generally don't, so for this reason I couldn't get behind the premise of the story.
I loved Mari and the kids (5 years and under) and the delightful neighbor, Marcus. I also liked how she tried to protect her kids as best she could by keeping everything as normal as possible. Personally, I think she was a Saint and I ageed with her mother! Get as far away as possible! Having said this, she must have been as blind as a bat not recognising the signs of his cheating, having known him since 13!
So far as Santos was concerned, as a person I actually liked him a lot (even though he was a complete sex addict) and he really put the effort into becoming a better man and ultimately trying to gain Mari's forgiveness.
What I didn't like about the book was that it felt flat. It could have been so much more angsty, there was a large amount of unnecessary filler and the ending could have been so much more!
I object strongly when an author gives you an incomplete ending and expects the reader to buy #Megged the Epilogue! This left a nasty taste in my mouth and I won't bother reading any other books in the series.
I enjoyed the #dualnarration by #KirstenLeigh and #AlexanderCendese
