About this listen

Disgraced former detective Mike Humber gets off a train in the bleak autumn countryside, his mind haunted by a dark past.

A new job awaits. Huntington House needs a live-in security guard to prevent access during an inheritance dispute.

This is exactly what Mike needs: a new start in a new place and a chance to turn things around.

It all seems perfect, especially when he meets Tessa.

But Huntington House holds dark secrets. Bumps in the night. Flickering lights. Music playing from somewhere.

Mike's mind starts to unravel as he questions his sanity in the dark, claustrophobic corridors and rooms.

Something isn't right.

There is someone else in the house.

The pressure grows as the people around Mike get pulled into a web of lies and manipulation, forcing him to take action before it's too late.

Twists and turns

Great characters with a devious plot and plenty of guessing of how things would turn out! I didn’t see it coming….

Excellent!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book for several reasons: an unusual premise; just the right balance between humour and darkness; believable, well-crafted characters; a twist which I really didn't see coming. The narration was superb. I am keen to read and/or hear more from this author.

Great ending

Honestly whilst listening to this book it was hard to see where it was all going, but sticking with it to the fantastic ending was well worth it. Thank you Mr Haywood. The end gave me such Hot Fuzz vibes and I loved it

Another brilliant listen from Mr Haywood

And now for something completely different! Again!!
I’m a massive R R Haywood fan - I love the huge variety to be found within his body of work. One thing that remains constant and utterly reliable is he never disappoints in delivering well formed characters who you grow to love and care about and a damn fine story line with clever humour that has you hooked from the first page.
The only disappointment I have is listening to the last chapter knowing it will soon be over and this was definitely true with this book too.
I’d love to hear more from Mike in the future (although not at the cost of another book from the Undead series!)
Well worth a credit - the narration is brilliant as with all R R Haywood’s books.
If you haven’t read any R R Haywood before you are truly missing out and you’re also lucky as you have such a wonderful pleasure awaiting you reading his work for the first time!

This got me good

What a tale of twists. Went from wound up at the main character to 'Oh, that was good'. Great read
