Summary
Demon summoner Kara Gillian bears the scars of Rhyzkahl’s treachery, but she refuses to let them slow her down. She and the demonic lord Mzatal have not rested in their efforts to recover Idris - Mzatal’s summoner protg who was kidnapped by enemy lords - but now their search has brought them back to Earth.
With the help of FBI agents Ryan Kristoff and Zack Garner, they begin to track down summoners who are working with Rhyzkahl. However, Kara knows Ryan’s true identity, and questions of loyalty threaten to tear apart this group of allies. When Kara intervenes to help a brilliant young computer expert and his bodyguard after an accidental shooting, she quickly learns that Rhyzkahl’s machinations run deeper than she could have ever imagined.
The search for Idris takes on a desperate edge as their enemies increase in number, and Kara realizes that an old homicide case may hold the key to their success - or their doom. With the very fabric of the universe at stake, Kara must rely on her skills, wit, and luck to save her friends and her world, yet ancient vows will have to be broken if she is to have any hope. But the price of breaking those vows may be her own blood.

Exactly as Amazon Customer says in their review "...I have never gone from one book to the next so quickly..."
(except with books by Anne Bishop)
As soon as I finish one book I start on the next in this series. This book doesn't disappoint either - I didnt love it quite as much as the previous one as it did slightly overdo Kara's battle to keep her identity but that's a mere detail.
The overall scope jumping between the demon realm and Earth, treachery, really bad baddies and a gripping climax that went on and one with twists and turns, its wonderful.
Its actually bad for me as usually I listen to books whilst doing other things like driving, mowing the lawn etc - but these I am actually making time to listen as I struggle to put each book down
great story and superbly narrated. Next book starts later today

Its hard to relate to the lead character
This series isn't for everyone... and its certainly not for me. i know this because i found myself happy to see Kara face real troubles. The first couple books in the series danced around the relationship between Kara and Ryan. And truth be told, that is the only reason that i kept on following the series. But up to this point i find that i'm unable to relate to Kara and to understand her thinking process. She supposedly only ever had 2 boyfriends before the start of the series... but yet, her easy tranfer into the world of casual sex while still claiming to hold feelings for Ryan..... it spoiled the series for me. Then here we find her "in love" with 'mosottle' in addition to ryan. Most of the time its pretty clear that Ryan is only an afterthought for her in the grand scheme of things....I understand her difficulty with ryan/ zerain.... but throughout the entire series she basically drags ryan around on a leash with no real desire to enter into a real relationship with him. And yet, she doesnt set boundaries between them in order to spare ryan's feelings. I find myself disliking Kara as a person... i will stick it out just because i made the mistake of purchasing the next book.... the only thing that can save my opinion of this series would be Ryan finding love outside of Kara. What a horrible and self absorbed character she is!

Disappointed
Would you try another book written by Diana Rowland or narrated by Liv Anderson?
I have listened to the whole series now - and whilst the first book is ok, numbers 2 to 5 actually are good. The characters are engaging, the story amusing and enjoyable, aside from some minor annoyances.
What could Diana Rowland have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The point about this book is that our whole concept of the story is turned upside down - a surprise twist. I like surprise twist normally. But here the twist seems to come with losing any link to any characters, it is incredibly hard to empathise with them anymore because they have become flat facsimile of stereotypes.
Have you listened to any of Liv Anderson’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I like the narrator
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Honestly, not many. The story has a lot of potential but the characters have flatlined.
