Summary

Writer and director, Todd Phillips, rock historian, Ed Ward, and film critic, John Powers, on this edition of Fresh Air. Todd Phillips' new film is called School for Scoundrels, starring Billy Bob Thornton as a cross between a self-help genius and a scam artist. Philips' other films include Old School, Road Trip, and Starsky and Hutch. Phillips is also credited for writing the story for the upcoming film, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhistan. Then, rock historian Ed Ward tells us the story of Wire, a British art-rock band from the late 1970s. While Wire has broken up and reformed several times, Ward focuses on the first incarnation of the band. Three discs have been reissued and are available in stores: Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, and 154. Additionally, a limited edition 5 disc box set, Wire Deluxe Set 1977-1979, is available online only at www.posteverything.com. The box includes the three studio albums and two live CDs. Finally, film critic John Powers reviews The Death of Mr. Lazarescu, now out on DVD. [Broadcast Date: September 27, 2006]
