Summary
ABC News Chief White House correspondent Martha Raddatz and Pulitzer prize-winning historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr., on this edition of Fresh Air. Martha Raddatz has been to Iraq twelve times since the beginning of the American invasion. She has a new book about one of the battles that was a turning point in the war: the battle in Sadr city in April 2004 when American troops realized they were facing an insurgency. Her book The Long Road Home: A Story of War and Family is about the soldiers who fought that battle and their families. One of the soldiers in the battle was Casey Sheehan, the son of antiwar activist Cindy Sheehan.
Then, we remember Pulitzer prize winning historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr. and listen back to an interview recorded with him at the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Cuban missle crisis. Schlesinger was special assistant in the White House, appointed by President Kennedy. Schlesinger died last night at the age of 89. (Original Airdate: 10/16/02). [Broadcast Date: March 1, 2007]
