Summary

Fragile Cord is an emotional roller coaster charting the psychological meltdown of a mother with a deadly secret.

Tracey Kavanagh was her usual upbeat self - right up until the moment she drowned her son and tied a rope around her neck, killing herself and her unborn child.

For Alex Moreton, this case couldn't have come at a worse time. Battling with her partner over whether to have another child, she is superstitious about pushing their luck - they're happy enough as they are...aren't they?

DS Kevin Coupland is dealing with a serious assault outside a wine bar in Swinton. Devoted family man Ricky Wilson is brutally stabbed following an altercation with youths while out with his wife and their children to celebrate her birthday.

Coupland and Moreton's cases merge when it transpires that Tracey and Ricky were tragically connected. Is it possible that there could be more to these two investigations than pure coincidence?

A good story overall

Great narration, appropriate to Northern England setting, maybe slightly less good on Scottish and Irish accents, though I am no expert really! The story was interesting and less run of the mill than many I have trawled through recently, some by more well known authors. Liked the main characters on the Police team and was left wanting to know more about their future progress, which is a big positive for me and possibly for others too. Highly recommended.

Fragile cord

Listened to this as a download and thought it built characters well and had an excellent storyline. Emma Salisbury develops believable and relatable characters and I liked the fact that there were two main separate incidents investigated linked at the end. First of a series of books ready for TV series soon perhaps. Narrator did a good job and easy to listen to. Trying still to place where the Scottish accent came from 🙂 Now for the second!

A great read truly uncovering a 'fragile cord'

An absorbing police procedural with a startling discovery that links two seemingly unrelated investigations. Wonderful!

A bit too wordy and the wrong narrator!

I do enjoy rich dialogue in a novel, but I find this too wordy for the genre. Also, to feel authentic it should be narrated in a Manchester accent. The narrator is okay, but a bit robotic and his attempt at a Geordie accent is pitiful. I feel the story would seem strong with the right narrator. For example, Becky Hindley.

Not a mystery at all

I do not like stories totally lacking any trace of "who dun it".
This is more a melodrama focusing on a bunch of dysfunctional characters, some of whom happen to be police officers. They might as well have been school teachers or hairdressers.
I would have given a zero star rating for the story, but, unfortunately, that is not possible.

Not good. Really poorly written.

Errors of English throughout.."disinterested" does not = "uninterested ". Brimming with plot, genre and language cliches.
