About this listen
California is a land divided by an 800 mile long rupture known as the San Andreas Fault.
The state’s heart, the Central Valley, hasn’t experienced the fault’s full fury, at least not in modern times.
Until now.
A standalone disaster thriller from international best-selling author, Bobby Akart, one of America's favorite storytellers, who delivers up-all-night thrillers to listeners in 245 countries and territories worldwide.
Several years ago, an ARkStorm, a once-in-a-thousand-years flood event caused by a series of intense atmospheric rivers, flooded the Central Valley of California from Sacramento to what was once Los Angeles. The weight of the water was equivalent to the volume generated by the Mississippi River times 22. It challenged an already fragile seismic system consisting of hundreds of active faults.
ARkStorm, the Other Big One, was leading to another epic catastrophic event, one that would rip the state apart. What was once deemed a slow and silent rupture of California's sleeping giant, the San Andreas fault line, has changed dramatically since the ARkStorm. It has awakened.
Mac Atwood warned that an earthquake along these stressed fault lines wouldn’t just rattle buildings. It would rip the state apart, sucking the lake and the land around it into the earth.
If only they had only listened.
This modern-day, fact-based novel will have you whispering just one more chapter until the end.

wow
I bought the book for my daughter and granddaughter, after reading first few chapters before giving it to them, I got this audible edition for myself.
san andreas has always fascinated me, and I spent most of my time listening scanning Google maps and texting them both, we love disaster stories but hope this never occurs.
the story is really well researched and written, and through a lot of jargon also broken down to easily follow if only an amateur like myself.
the narrator does a great job too.
one tiny complaint, the chapters are short and each has an unnecessarily long intro.
I've already purchased ARkstorm and ordered new Madrid, I look forward to these and hopefully more of authors work, excellent.

Interesting eco-thriller, but bland performance
This is a good story, initially about the aftermath of a major ARkStorm (what that is was never really explained in this book) which left a huge portion of central California flooded, and created a new giant lake.
The main part of the story though relates to the San Andreas fault starting to become active, with catastrophic consequences. The central character, Mac Atwood has warned of the effect of the lake water on the fault, causing an earthquake and that it could rip that part of the world apart. I think.
My biggest issue with this story is that it requires quite a detailed knowledge of geology and vulcanology to fully understand what is going on, but I also have a fairly major issue with the narration, for me it was all rather flat and monotone, with no excitement in the narrator's voice even during very exciting passages.
I really wanted to enjoy this story, but it didn't quite do it for me.
