About this listen
A twist of fate...
Lord Joshua Stuart, the second son of the Duke of Beaufort, has never fit in with the rest of his family. Though he has a practice on Bond Street, he’s always preferred working in Cheapside, where he can make a real difference. It has nothing to do with his attractive, sweet neighbor across the street, or so he tells himself. But when Kate’s school is threatened, Joshua knows he must help her.
As Joshua and Kate work to save the school, they grow closer, until their love for each other can no longer be denied. Their search brings them to the famed fortune-teller Madame Zeta, who holds the key to Kate’s past. But when Kate’s fate intertwines with Madame Zeta’s, nothing will ever be the same. Will her love for Joshua survive fortune’s twists, or will they end up as the final folly?

Fortune by fate's decree.... loved it!
Kate and Joshua are neighbours in Cheapside, London. The difference is that Kate grew up in Cheapside and still works and lives in her childhood home. Meanwhile Joshua travels in as often as possible from his home in Cavendish Square. Kate is the only daughter of an impoverished vicar and Joshua is the second son of a Duke. So they maintain their formal but friendly acquaintance while secretly wishing for so much more.
Then, one evening, Joshua discovers Kate's home on fire and he runs into the flames to save her. The building isn't the only thing damaged by the flames. The glass ceiling on their stilted acquaintance is shattered and the two protagonists step into a more comfortable friendship. After all, how could there be more between a penniless schoolmarm and an aristocrat?
This book has a little of everything in an easy to listen to package. It had historical romance, the breaking of societal norms, a little suspense and mystery and a healthy dose of action. I enjoyed the story and I especially enjoyed Katherine Anderson's narration which was a perfect match for this audiobook.
