Great story & narrator
Story was free for members so I thought there was nothing to lose. I'm so glad I listened. The story was great, well written and engaging. The narrator was great too, not sure why other people didn't like her, I've heard much worse. Her performance was spot on. Will definitely be listening to the rest in the series.

Very Unexpected
I originally downloaded this as it was free for members and I figured it was short and would be a good palette cleanser between book series. How wrong was I!!! I loved this book (on book 4, will review them too) and could not stop listening. I've seen some negative reviews around this series but I feel its because people go in expecting one thing and get another. This is not a dark fantasy romance with spice! I know, you want to stop reading now lol! That's my normal genre too. This however is a book series filled with magic and politics. It has humour, found family and embraces the darker side. Book one was good but each book after gets better and better but also darker! I never thought I would enjoy this type of series but all I can say is you won't know until you try and it's free for book one, so you have nothing to lose ;-)

story took off fast and kept going nicely. Had fun time with these dark characters.
books felt bit short and time was flying, but thats typical when you are having fun.

Engaging story and action
This book is full of action and interesting twists
and it doesn’t drag on. The storyline is so captivating and keeps you wanting to find out more. The romance is not much unfortunately, maybe more in the next one?

horrible narrator dnf
the story sounds really good but I couldn't get past chapter 4. Normally I can get used to a narrator but this one sounds just so annoying. The accent is very American and croaky, and especially the intonation (every sentence ends on a downwards tone) irks me. I'm European and like British English accents, and this is just too far away from that. It's a personal preference, and it's a shame because I think the story is very promising.

Amazing narrator! I’m a fan.
I’ve found that poorly narrated fantasy books can be exceptionally awful to follow along with, even if they’re not bad in themselves. I know it’s super subjective but for me, Amy is a great narrator and made this book so engaging I couldn’t stop listening!
The plot is interesting and I like that it explores dark magic and morally grey characters. However I found it to be quite short, moving both too fast and too slow, making the ending very abrupt. I didn’t feel like the relationship between Quinn and Lazarus was developed well enough for the ending to have the payoff it was intended to. I really liked Quinn’s character though so will continue to read the series!
