Summary

Shadowy powers closing in. Children of Heroes, not yet heroes themselves. A new generation rises.

Prince Azlo and Princess Nadir have always had Tales of Storm Company and their father Zeke constantly looming over the heads. The success of their heritage creating a shadow so large it casts a void-like pall on their very existence.

Too bad for the world, the royal children are completely disillusioned with the tales. After all, how heroic can one be when your children are left without you? Convinced that they need to find their own paths forward and forge their own legends if they're to ascend the throne one day, the children set off to find themselves.

It doesn’t take long at all for them to be deeply entangled in a web of Brindollan Affairs.

Fun book

It’s a well paced book with lots going for it. I enjoyed the slightly different twist on a standard LitRPG novel. The narration was very good and kept me engaged throughout. Will look out for the next in the series.

Existing series' world gets a new series set in it

A few years ago, I had previously enjoyed the Axe Druid series, so when I learned about this new series set in the same world, I was interested to see how well it would work out. While the world as a whole and a number of characters from the previous series return, the focus is not really on those characters. This series is focused on the children of some of the main characters, so you get a good balance of familiar, while also getting that solid sense of progression that you expect in this genre.

Both narrators deliver strong performances, nicely helping to ensure a distinctive range of voices for the full cast of characters.

Overall, an interesting return to the world of Brindolla and a promising start to a new series, I'll definitely being looking out for future instalments.
