Summary

Millionaire bad boy Jordan Fawkes has problems. Big problems. That molten-hot intern he hooked up with at Comic-Con is now his assistant. No one can know they're the stars of the cosplay sex tape that broke the Internet.

Business school hopeful April Weiss has drama. Big drama. Working under the CFO of Draco Multimedia should be the opportunity of a lifetime for her, but Jordan Fawkes is the boss from Hell - a sexier-than-sin boss from Hell who holds all the cards for her future career.

And then there's the small problem of a certain video....

This novel is part of the larger Gaming the System series, but can be heard as a standalone book. No knowledge of the events from the previous three books is required to enjoy this one.

I’m obsessed

I’m so obsessed with this story. It’s a wild ride. Sweet, hot, anger inducing moments and all the best parts of a this is the one love story. That it’s set in a world I already know and love is the icing on the cake. I love the narrators and I can’t wait for the next one.

Adored this story!

I LOVED this forbidden romance when I read it and I think the narration was fantastic. Love Jason Clarke's voice and Kirsten Leigh played April's role really well. This story was well-told, hot and a little bit emotional. Gorgeous!!

Jordan & April!

Brenna Aubrey has been on my to listen to list for a while, and when this opportunity to listen came up, I grabbed it and I am so glad I did. Aubrey has a way of writing that sucked me in from the beginning of the book and kept me riveted til the end. It's my kind of story. Not too angsty, just enough to keep the emotions running, and the story is totally entertaining. Jordan runs a gaming company, and April is his new intern. Little does she know, he is her anonymous one night stand...that had some consequences. Now the two are caught up in a push-pull romance, full of witty banter, steamy passion and a conclusion that just warms the heart. April is smart and pretty, but what she really wants is to make her father proud. Jordan is the perfect mix of charming and devilish. The two use their strengths to really pull the best out of each other without even realizing it. It's a reality tv show with a conscience! And a blast to listen to.

With the narration team of Kirsten Leigh and Jason Clarke, the story comes alive. These seasoned performers bring out all the nuances of April and Jordan, making the conversation realistic and enhancing the story. I am going to go back and listen to the rest of this series!

My favorite of the series so far

Is it because it was a new couple? Is it because I’d wanted to see Jordan change his stance regarding love since he was introduced? Is it because I’m a sucker for office romances AND secret relationships? I don’t know, but I really liked this one, and it’s my favorite of the series so far.

I mostly missed one thing: the geek talk. Here, the characters are a finance genius and his assitant, so they don’t exchange pop culture references from games or movies. They have a few conversations around literature and fairytales, so there’s that. And Adam and Mia are still there as side characters, and April’s friend, Sid, is a geek of another level. It’s still the Gaming the system series, after all.

Another strong theme of this book is family–the pressure from their expectations, the sense of entitlement from some parents, the disappointment… It was sad and so relatable.

Narration was still excellent, and it was okay to have the same narrators for another couple.

Love this so much!

Jordan's story was always going to be a humdinger and it is! From start to finish Jordan and April are richly drawn, engaging and completely lovable, particularly April! Jordan has a lot of progress to make to fully realise his human card, and this story takes him on an often painful, but revealing journey. I lived the dual pov and with it the insights into these characters. April's lack of self belief and Jordan's walls take a huge amount of punishment to reach better days for both of them. Again, Jason Clarke and Kristen Leigh shone as narrators. They both possess the skill of inhabiting the story and the characters, bringing to fruition an audio experience which is of top quality and totally engrossing. I loved every second! 💖💖💖💖💖

Great characters

Jordan, oh how I love a bad boy. Jordan definitely needed someone to calm his boyish ways. This is a great storyline with lots of emotion written in. Fantastic performance from both Kirsten and Jason.

Lower angst

This was much lower angst than the first three books of the series (which was a change of pace I was definitely ready for). I liked that the author took two of the least likable characters from Adam and Mia’s story and showed us another perspective.

The same team of narrators continued their fabulous performances ‘for the win’. I’m
Interested in listening to the next in the series.
