Summary
Five little boys set off for their first day at Selton Junior School. Their friendship grows, but who would have expected how their lives would turn out and, ultimately, where this journey takes them?
Live with the boys through their heartaches, misdemeanors, love, broken dreams, and eventually the realization of friendship. This book is based in the Peak District of Derbyshire, a place to visit at least once in your life.

5/5, A great read
This is a great book that takes you on a journey from childhood to adulthood for 5 young boys. Each boy has their differences and each character has their ups and downs as life moves forward. There's a lot of nostalgia and life lessons for the characters, as well as surprises for the reader
This is a great book that could easily be adapted as a movie. Very good plot and excellent writing.
Would definitely recommend

Rediscover your childhood
One of the guilty pleasures of mine is to escape into nostalgia. Sure European living can be different from American. But largely the feelings and drama and heartache are the same.
Five Knocks on a Door is a coming of age story, with each of the five boys different and well-written. Believable enough as to be sucked into the story. Of which is about how different realities can turn in vastly different directions even though you begin from similar beginnings.
The five boys meet up, almost ritualistically, year by year. And with each year they find out how different their lives have become. But what keeps them together through all this is the strong friendships between them. A bond that will warm your heart and is a throughline through this coming of age story.
The narration being British in dialect was a nice choice and aids to bring authenticity to the setting.
All in all a good way to transport yourself into nostalgia!

Really good story and well narrated.
Not my usual choice of audio book but I have to say I really enjoyed it, so much so that I had to listen from start to end in one go. The book was well narrated really well and the narrator did an excellent job of bringing the different characters to life. Will definitely be buying more from this narrator, highly recommended. I really enjoyed the story and will be looking out for more from this author. Will be listening to this one again.
