About this listen

When Beth LaMonte rents a cottage on the coast of Maine, she wishes only to withdraw and paint. A mysterious ball of light disturbs her peace and leads her to a secret beach where she finds the diary of a girl who disappeared in 1975. Now Beth is on a mission, not only to bury her own past, but to put to rest the spirit of Firefly Beach.

"Firefly Beach will keep you guessing as to what will happen next, right to the ending. Meira Pentermann pens her characters with style and believability which leaves you totally satisfied." (Reviewed by My Cozy Corner)

pleasantly surprised

If you could sum up Firefly Beach in three words, what would they be?

A enjoyable listen

What did you like best about this story?

The narration was excellent, with not to many characters to confuse the listener, making following the story while working on my computer, easy and enjoyable.

What about Donna Postel’s performance did you like?

Usually find, sorry not being sexist, American female narration a little irritating. This was a excellently narrated story

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Follow your heart.

Pleasantly surprised

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, because the book has a good, if slightly unusual, story line. The characters are well-drawn and totally believable, as is the back-drop of Maine. I enjoy stories in the fantasy genre but often these are a bit far-fetched, but this story did not stretch my credibility. Donna Postel is the first American female whose performance has not annoyed me by being either over-acted or their tones grate. She has a gentle voice with good characterisations.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Firefly Beach?

I have one, but it would be a bit of a spoiler to mention it.

Have you listened to any of Donna Postel’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No I haven't but I will be looking out for more read by her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

At times, yes. It is not exactly "sitting-on-the-edge-of-the-chair" exciting, but I have found I have still be listening to it well after midnight (way past my bedtime!).

Any additional comments?

Perhaps Audible will consider having her previous book Nine Tenths and her soon to be published Celtic Sister recorded. Hope so.

Slow start but a very enjoyable novel

If you could sum up Firefly Beach in three words, what would they be?

Haunting Supernatural mystery

What was one of the most memorable moments of Firefly Beach?

Description of the first time the firefly led Beth to the hidden beach.

Have you listened to any of Donna Postel’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No, first time I have listened to any if her novels.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Made me cry on more than one occasion.

Any additional comments?

Wonderful heart wrenching book, with a good story, but a little slow to start. I almost gave up and abandoned the book, as it was so slow and with too much detail in descriptions given . Glad I persevered as I really did enjoy, once it got going.
