About this listen
The next action-packed FIREBORN adventure
‘The best kind of children’s fantasy story: thrilling and imaginative’ B. B. Alston, author of Amari and the Night Brothers
‘The perfect balance of high adventure, breathless action and eerie wonder’ Jonathan Stroud, author of the Bartimaeus trilogy
HOPE GROWS FROM THE ASHES . . .
Twelve has become a hunter and chosen a new name to reflect her elemental power: Phoenix.
Three months after the destruction of the Hunting Lodge, a witch arrives from the frost palace of Icegaard, desperate for Phoenix’s help. Icegaard is in grave danger from an evil force called the Shadowseam, and if the witch-palace falls, all the clans of Ember will fall with it.
Travelling north, Phoenix and her friends, Five, Six and Seven, must battle frightening new monsters and find a way to defeat the Shadowseam. But as Phoenix learns to control her new power, the faceless Croke begins to haunt her dreams . . .
Phoenix will have to fight with everything she’s got to save Ember from mortal danger. But the price of survival may be more than she can pay.

Another incredible chapter!
Both my KS2 students and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and listening to this after our virtual author event with Aisling Fowler last year. They really engaged with the themes of the texts, related to the characters and it genuinely sparked their creativity for creating their own fantasy worlds, characters and creatures. This second book was darker in nature and has left Phoenix and her friends finely balanced in the fight for Ember. We can't wait to read/hear the next installment.

Great adventure, lovely strong female leads
Loved the narration, love how all the voices bring the characters to life, well acted out, Great adventure, love the relationships between the young characters and the little light moments they share in between the more stressful scenes. I just love The Guardian, ‘Dog’ - please don’t let anything happen to him. Note for Mums previewing the books for their children, some parts of the book do get quite dark and if your child is a bit sensitive maybe bear in mind how The Master speaks into the minds of the characters - it can be a bit scary especially if your child already has a fear of the dark. Otherwise it’s good, looking forward to the next one in the series.

My daughter and i loved it. Pre-ordered book3
Great story, great characters. Only down side was my daughter could sleep she was so into the book. I had to take away the devices at night, normally she goes to sleep with audio book. But this story was too engaging.
I personally found the narrator speed a bit sore so had to listen at 1.2x speed
