About this listen
The stakes couldn’t be higher in the newest novel in the New York Times best-selling, pulse-pounding Jane Yellowrock series.
Jane Yellowrock is the queen of the vampires, and that makes her a target as she fights to maintain control and keep peace in the city of New Orleans. She has enemies at every turn, because vampires live forever, and they keep their grudges alive with them. That includes the Heir, the vampire sire of the Pellissier bloodline, which gave rise to Leo Pellissier himself—Jane’s old boss and the former master of the city.
With the Heir and all the forces of darkness he can muster arrayed against her, Jane will need all the help she can get. She’ll find it in her city, her friends, her found family, and, of course, the Beast inside of her.

Love the series - Not sure about this book
I love this series, love Jane, beast and all the characters but I’m just not sure about this book.
I love what it aimed to achieve and bring together at the end, tying off so many storyline threads really was satisfying to read/hear. But, the story leading up to the big ‘thread closing’ ending, felt a bit unsatisfying to me, there was A LOT of going back over old stories, explanations and speculating the why of things, much more than usual - and part of me understands why Faith would want to bring all of that to the forefront of our minds again, there have been a lot of books after all, but it started to feel like that was all the book was about to me and so felt dry. Especially as pretty much every fight bar the last one, Jane effectively just watched and did nothing even when she’d ‘geared up’ and gone.
Again I’m split on this. I get that Faith was trying to portray Jane’s frustration at not being able to be in the thick of things now she’s queen. But, while I got some of it, some it just didn’t feel like Jane. Alot of the fights they just watched the witches and the heir do what they came for and didn’t seem to even try to stop it, just step back and watched. I just feel like Jane would have done more, if not in the fights themselves then to try and figure things out and try to take preemptive action to stop ‘the inevitable’. This felt like she just waited for the inevitable to unfold, which is not what I’m used to from Jane Yellowrock
