Summary

Pauly Johnson is a successful surgeon at a Melbourne hospital with a beautiful wife, a loving family and a memory he wishes he could erase.

Novel enhanced by narrator

Our anti hero Pauley is troubled. I am troubled by his name but I grew to like him and was on his side. The narrator performed the story and enhanced the thriller which revolves round our troubled Pauley?

I was absorbed by this tale and did not unravel the who and why they dunnit until the final chapters.

My criticism would be the repetitive writing style.. Pauley did this and Pauley did that are starting sentences over and over. It may have been a style choice to emphasise the characters approach to life.

I would like to read more by the author.

Crime Novel

Story line doesn’t make sense in places ? But overall a good story that started off as a suicide story ended up a crime thriller. My biggest criticism of this book was the main character’s name - Paulie, like a brain worm - couldn’t listen to it in one go as I could not envisage a grown man called Paulie and obviously as a main character it’s said a lot - I remember it as the Paulie story.

Entertaining

This was a slightly different story… a suicide gone wrong, leading to a whole unraveling of a mystery with several twists. So actually entertaining.
Really well narrated

Blissful Sunday

I spent a very enjoyable Sunday listening to this excellent and free audible offering. I found it gripping and thought-provoking. Very well read by Mr Bliss. I can't think why people have been less than thrilled by this book. I thought that it might be free for a reason. Well it is! It's to get me hooked on Sarah Bailey!

An ok story

I did managed to get the the end but I did struggle staying interested. The narrator was good. I can't really pinpoint the issue, I guess just not really that gripping for me persoanlly.
