Summary
They say confession is good for the soul. But revealing too much could prove deadly.
When devoted Governess Abigail McFadden discovers her charge has run off to join the Union army on his 14th birthday, her impetuous decision to go after him catapults her behind enemy lines and into a life-changing fight for survival.
Failing to locate the boy, Abby is stranded in Confederate Georgia with no means to get home. After taking a nursing position in Macon's confederate hospital, she comes under suspicion as a Union spy. Her only consolation is the work she does outside of the hospital walls in a shanty town of unwanted orphans.
Confederate officer Ian Saberton, a theological graduate of Yale, is thrust into war and forced to choose sides. His greatest struggle becomes a fight for his soul as his faith and deep convictions are put to the test. When Sherman advances on Atlanta, Ian is sent to prepare his home state for enemy invasion.
Headquartered in Macon, he encounters a town full of civilians oblivious to the imminent danger bearing down on them. He and his men must see the city secured, while avoiding a passel of matchmaking socialites determined to see him married.
When Abby is brought up on false charges and scheduled to be hanged, she has no choice but to trust the handsome Confederate officer who offers the only way of escape. But will deep secrets pitting them on opposite sides destroy the fragile bond between them?

There’s good on both sides!
When Abigail is fired from her job as a governess , Because they blamed her for their oldest boy Malcolm fleeing to join the Yankees in the war. When she leavesOhio, she makes her way to Macon Georgia and only there learns that Malcolm, the boys she was in search of, Has been sent home by a southern doctor and and that same kind Doctor Who sent a Yankee soldier home hired her to work in Floyd Hospital. This is where she is working two years later when A colonel from the confederacy comes to making and it will change her life, but first she must indoor being accused of being a spy and hated by an alcoholic general who is over the POW camp in Macon and hates her with a passion. Before Colonel Sutherland goes to Macon, he is playing by the death of his college roommate and even though it was self-defense and they were fighting on two different sides it caused Ian to give up being a minister, because how could he preach the good word of God when he is a murderer and how can he love a tender angel like Abby with blood on his hands. All Abbie want is to be loved and a family and cheese only ever wanted it with Ian can they both overcome their problems and live happily? I love this story and even though they had some spectacular scenes in it and things that make you think that wouldn’t really happen… But somehow the author makes them authentic and it keeps you turning the pages. If you love historical romance then you will absolutely love this book. I certainly did.

Wonderful, immersive experience :)
Field of Redemption is such a gorgeous read! Rich in Historical research and detail, I loved stepping through time to the late 19th century and experiencing the Civil War through nurse Abby (Abigail McFadden) and Officer Ian Saberton's story. This being an audiobook made it an immersive experience, showing everything from the cruel and sad moments of war, to the hope and love that friends and community can provide. Yes, the cast is large, but the narrator does a wonderful job differentiating everyone with their own voice, and I could listen to her for another book or two. 😉 I loved hearing the accents and all the different nuances played in her performance from all the characters (she nailed them all! From tender adoration to trembling and fright, and even downright anger, she delivered it all). I loved the slow burn of Abby and Ian's story, and I looked forward to every single one of their interactions, but I also loved the reminders of God's love, mercy, and forgiveness for us all. I can't recommend this book enough, and now I'm off to look at this author and narrator's other work. ~ 5 stars!
