Summary

When we see a person of great strength and ability but also with a fatal flaw, it’s often said that they have “feet of clay”. Did you know that expression came from the Bible? The heroes of the Bible had great strengths and abilities and were used by the Lord to do wonderful things, but their stories are not preserved for us without including their struggles and failures.

In the stories of these Old Testament characters, we find striking parallels to our own lives. Even as we are continually being changed into the image of Christ, we too have feet of clay. Today we have much to glean from their mistakes in hopes of not repeating them. More importantly, we’re reminded again and again that failure was superseded by God’s grace. All their inabilities—and an honest consideration of our own—point us to Jesus.
