Critic reviews

"Narrator Clare Corbett flawlessly creates the accents and setting of Lenchester, England, while introducing Detective Chief Inspector Whitney Walker and her polar opposite, psychologist Georgina Cavendish.... Corbett's best creation is pathologist Clare Dexter whose eccentricities add a bit of levity. The well-rendered step-by-step procedural, with its gripping conclusion, makes for an exceptional listen." (AudioFile Magazine, review of Cavendish & Walker)

Enjoyable

I’ve listened to the first two books in this series & am thoroughly enjoying them. Clare Corbett is a brilliant narrator & has different voices for the characters which makes it easier to know who is speaking. I’m now about to start listening to the third book.

Enjoyable

This is the second of the series, which I listened to straight after the first book.

I love the characters and the narrator is excellent, but I felt the story was a bit rushed towards the end.

Overall I enjoyed it, but I think I might have a break before I start book 3.

This series gets better and better

I discovered the Cavendish and Walker series through Audible plus and listened to 'The Night Shift', 'Deadly Games' and 'Fatal Justice' back to back. I just love everything about these books, from the plotting to the fantastic characterisation, how the characters develop as the series progresses and the fabulous narration by Clare Corbett. I can't wait to get stuck into book 3 and see what case Whitney and George have to crack next!
I must admit that this book did make me a bit nervous before starting it as it does cover the topic of paedophiles grooming and abusing young girls via a social media app. However, there was no graphic detail about the crimes, just mentioning of how the men made the girls trust them and how easy it was to get them to agree to meet up. Scary but very realistic stuff but not graphic at all. I liked the way the police tackled catching the vigilante who was killing the men and how it then tackled her reasons for doing so. A really well plotted and executed book about an all too real topic but that was handled sensitively.

A good page turner

I enjoyed this novel as much as the first one. I like the characters of George and Whitney and the development of their friendship. The storyline was original and kept me guessing until the end. It is also a very pertinent subject and hopefully will help to raise awareness of the serious issue of online grooming.

Tough story to follow

But thanks to the heroines it ends successfully. Not sure the topic of the story was really given the right platform somehow it was still leaving some lose ends and the gruesome murders gave the victims too much status. The format of the story has changed a bit from the previous ones and it was an interesting twist. The team gets more developed and that carries a lot of the story forward. Will be interesting how that will progress, the interactions could be a bit more beefy it’s not all falling into place every time in real life and that tension is missing in my opinion.

He said, she said

loved the story line but found the 'he said', 'she said' really annoying....made me cringe. seemed to come in bouts. excellent story though and looking forward to the next book...fingers crossed there are not so many of these annoying words.
