About this listen
From the best-selling author of The Search for the Green River Killer: a chilling true account of the dream husband who was every woman's nightmare.
Randy Roth was handsome, hardworking, kind, and in top physical shape. But for all his charm and good looks, he was seemingly cursed with the ladies. His first marriage ended in divorce before the couple's fifth anniversary; his second wife plunged to her death during a hike; and his third wife left him after less than five months.
But when Roth's fourth wife, Cynthia, drowned in an apparent speedboating accident in Washington State's Lake Sammamish just weeks after their first anniversary, a pattern of suspicious behavior finally caught up to him. As Roth set about collecting on a hefty insurance payout, the authorities were on to his game.
Roth had been careful - and so close to getting away with it. But, as chronicled by Seattle Times reporter and Pulitzer Prize finalist Carlton Smith, his lies were about to come crashing down around him.

Innocent or guilty ?
Interesting g story, narration was fine. The gentleman concerned obviously had a way with the ladies but his honesty appears somewhat poor. Was he quilty of one murder, two murders or was he just unlucky?

Tense
The legal arguments are the elements that make this unputdownable. You feel the suspense until the end. I won’t do a spoiler - find out for yourself!

Well written, absorbing, excellently performed
This was another title I hadn't expected much from: I thought it would be a relatively light listen, easy to skim and enjoyable without much thought. I was hooked from the opening chapter. All the chapters are fairly short, so you can break away if you need to, but increasingly I didn't want to. The author's style is vivid/graphic without being sensational, and builds convincing psychological pictures of all the people involved, even those with only a small part to play. The portrayal of Randy Roth allows you the chance to understand/feel sorry for the difficult circumstances of his early life without absorbing him from responsibility for his later choices. A fascinating listen in the light of 21st century discoveries about 'gaslighting', narcissism, psycho- and sociopathology etc.

Enjoyable
Hadn’t heard of Randy Roth before but found the story fascinating. If you like true crime stories then this is a good one. Despicable man.

Surprisingly good
Surprisingly good. Didn’t drag, as other reviews suggest. Backstory of accused was a little long but necessary. Court case was not needlessly drawn out, as is often the case. The linking of the older case with the newer one gave it more depth. Narration excellent.

A Thorough Account
This is an interesting listen, and ‘page-turner’. There needed to be a lot of information on this case, which felt like I was wading through it at some points. However, I enjoyed the book.

Gave up after an hour.
I found that this just wasn't fast paced enough to hold my attention.
The narrator mispronounced a few fairly simple words, which i found annoying. If you are working as a narrator, surely you should double check words/names you're unfamiliar with?

Excellent
I am surprised that there have been no reviews on this book. It is well worth a listen. What a horrid man, Randy Roth was. Ladies, beware of life insurance policies!. The story was very well put together. The narrator was easy to understand and put across the story very well. Definitely recommended.
