About this listen
Cornwall, 1817. Napoleon has crushed the Duke of Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo, and his ex-wife, Josephine, presides over French-occupied England. Cornwall erupts into open rebellion, and young heiress Hester escapes with Crow, Wellington's former intelligence officer. Together they become embroiled in a web of treachery and espionage as plans are laid to free Wellington from captivity and lead an uprising against the French occupation.

Swashbuckling and richly descriptive adventure.
A wonderfully exciting and so richly descriptive adventure novel, it had me griped all the way through, only sad there are not many more from K J Whittaker.
Very well read too.

Great story, very clunky excecution. There was way too much information thrown into each sentence that kept pulling me out of the narrative. The narrator simply sent me to sleep - no variety or change in pace to reflect mood. It was not always clear who was speaking as the narrator employed the same voice and inflection for everyone, with the exception of the step mother, for whom she used a giggling voice to convey that the character was a snob - so contrived and after a while, downright irritating. Such a shame as I loved the premise of the novel.
