About this listen
A lost legacy puts one of England’s great families in mortal peril …
Lazen Castle, home to the much-envied Lazender family, is a house under siege. The heir is abroad, pursuing his own adventures, so the family estates fall under the control of his sister, Campion. Meanwhile, The Fallen Angels, a powerful and dangerous secret society in Europe, need the Lazender fortune to bring their rebellion to England.
Surrounded by deceit, Campion draws ever closer to a subtle trap that has been laid for her, her only hope being Gypsy – her brother’s aloof horse-master, whose loyalties have always been uncertain.
In this powerful blend of passion, adventure and intrigue, the second chronicle of the great Lazender family comes to life.

Period romance
I’m an avid fan of Bernard Cornwell’s historical fiction which is why I bought this book. It’s more a romance than either a gripping tale of daring do or of history. At times I nearly gave up on it but I persisted and did get some knowledge of the appalling events of the French Revolution

an excellent listen
Initially confused after reading the first book in the series.... maybe a prologue would have helped. Anyway, this story is I think, even better than the first, full of intrigue and it keeps you guessing right to the end. Highly recommended.

Sadly, only one up from Mills and Boon.
Don't read this if you are a Cornwell fan.
Overlong, repetitive, tedious descriptions, needed a really good edit. Love story set in this historical context simply not credible: grafting 21 st century attitudes onto 18th century life. Should have been half the length.
You would have thought this was written by an amateur.
Reading generally very good but some dreadful lapses of prononciation, gun-whales, mis-happen instead of misshapen, didn't even make sense in the context...a mishappen sack?! And others ... 'opinned ' instead of opined. What happened to the audio editor?
Why did we continue to listen? All we had on 15 hour car journey!

Not as good
I have sent this book back without finishing it. Where as I enjoyed the first book by this duo, this one I felt was a poor follow on. Some one else said Mills and Boon in a previous review and that sums it up really. Shame.
