About this listen

What does it mean to earn the Silver Oakleaf? So few men have done so. For Will, a mere boy, that symbol of honour has long felt out of reach. Now, in the wake of Araluen's uneasy truce with the raiding Skandians comes word that the Skandian leader has been captured by a dangerous desert tribe.

The Rangers are sent to free him. But the desert is like nothing these warriors have seen before. Strangers in a strange land, they are brutalised by sandstorms, beaten by the unrelenting heat, tricked by one tribe that plays by its own rules, and surprisingly befriended by another. Like a desert mirage, nothing is as it seems. Yet one thing is constant: the bravery of the Rangers.

Great story - shame about the random music

Another fantastic story. For those wanting to listen in chronological order (like us!), the events in this story happen in the timeline between book 4 and book 5 though in the order of writing it is book 7. We got a bit confused about where it fitted as some said 5 and some 7 but they are both correct! We felt it best to read in chronological order and yet again this book kept us on the edge of our seats with loads of guessing about what would happen next - sometimes we got it right but there were plenty of twists we didn’t spot which kept the whole family engaged. These are fantastic books for long car journeys - our 7 and 11 year old boys have been quite happy to do long car journeys since they get more stories! The only quibble is the same as previous books - the random electronic music between chapters which is sometimes inappropriate to the mood of the story. Well worth getting past that minor irritation though since the story and performance are, as always, brilliant!

Great story, Great reader

The plot of the story was great along with William Zappa’s great performance makes this a gripping and incredible story, there is only one snag and that is the fact that it is (in chronological order) book 5 but is listed as book 7 as that is when it came out but that is nothing on the story which is incredible!

Great book, glad I listened as the 5th book

I think the book needs to be modified to say book 5 in the audio, not book 7.

But it was a great story
