About this listen
This is an edited selection of the Koans from Mumon, dating back to the 13th century. Twenty-four key koans from the famous Asian text, The Gateless Barrier. Professor David Christopher Lane has written an introduction to the practice of Zazen and the use of loans. Lavishly illustrated in Zen motif, this delightful book encourages one to take up the practice of meditation by letting the rational mind be confronted by the paradox of existence.

Truly Calming
I loved this; I quickly found myself in a flow state and this was fully my intention in choosing to listen to this book. The narration is what truly sold the experience for me though - Richard's voice is incredibly calming and the pacing is perfect, it takes a particular type of voice to be able to carry this kind of story and, at least for me, this is where this audiobook really shines.

A dive into eastern philosophy and the monkey mind
Empty zen is a great way to shake up the mind's speeding thought processes. Listening to this sowed some seeds of zen that I have continued to ponder about. I wholly recommend giving it a listen. If possible, listen to it more than once! The narrator is calming to listen to and guides you along the journey through the riddle-rich koans.
