Helps turn bitter into sweet.
I've never read (or listened) to a book quite like "Empty Nest, Open Sky" by Audrey Daric. It was a timely listen for me, since my kids are close to flying the coop. I think Daric's strength is her ability to turn a depressing prospect into something kind of exciting. In a way, she offers the listener to find a way back to the self that they may have ignored while parenting for two decades or more. It's a real confidence booster.
The audiobook itself is a mix of approaches. There's some personal stories that I found relatable. Daric also includes more "expert" advice on dealing with feelings of loss. I like the idea of seeing opportunity in the whole thing. It's a big change, so why not approach it like an adventure or apply a healthy dose of "growth mindset"?
The quality is there throughout the whole book, but a few sections stood out to me. Routine building and financial planning stuck out as eminently practical. However, I really got hit in the "feels" by the advice on relationships with adult children. That's a tough one, but I think Daric's advice is excellent. Shout out to the narration, too. It's an easy listen with a warm feeling. I think anyone facing an empty nest will appreciate the support and advice this well-made audiobook offers.

Great book - thinking about the next stage of life
I got this book for my friend, and we listened to it on long car trip. We laughed, we cried, we both agreed this is a great book to start working through "all the things" when you enter the empty nest phase of life. While she had already considered that along with all the sadness comes freedom, this book really helped her move into a state of mind where she is more focused on the positives of being an empty-nester than the negatives. She has already started a list of new things she wants to try with all her new found free time. The narration in this book is easy to listen to - overall, I highly recommend this book.

I wish we had this book years ago
We wish we had this book years ago when our only child moved out. The transition was tougher than we expected, and we struggled to fill our time and rediscover our passions. It's full of practical advice on self-care, finding new adventures, and maintaining relationships with adult children. It would have made that time feel more like the start of something new instead of a loss.

Empty Nest, Open Sky -Great Book!
For parents navigating the empty nest phase, this enlightening guide is ideal. The range of feelings that frequently accompany this life transition—happiness, melancholy, enthusiasm, and confusion—is sympathetically addressed. Readers are inspired to accept this shift as an opportunity for personal development and self-discovery by the author's upbeat tone and helpful guidance. This book is unique because it emphasizes transforming uncertainty into opportunity and serves as a reminder to parents that this new chapter is a fresh start rather than the end. This book gives you the confidence and inspiration to embrace your newfound independence with hope, regardless of how you're feeling about the future. A Heartfelt Guide for the Next Chapter
When my son moved out, I wasn’t sure how to adjust to the quiet house and extra time. This audiobook gave me the perspective I needed to see this phase as an opportunity rather than a loss. The advice felt personal and encouraging, like talking to a supportive friend who’s been through it. It helped me focus on rediscovering my interests and setting new goals. If you’re navigating the empty nest stage, this is a thoughtful and inspiring resource.

Uplifting
It's so true that as a parent you eventually "realise life is one long series of letting go - watching your kid crawl, then walk, then run, and then drive away." However this book shows that when the children leave home, it's not a loss, it's liberating. I really enjoyed listening because it turned a heartrending topic into an uplifting one. Each chapter covers a different feature of what you can do to fill the silence. It's nice to have all these options read to you. Recommended!
