Journalist Ben Harper is on his way home when he sees the flames in the churchyard. The derelict community centre is on fire. And somebody is trapped inside.

With Ben's help the person escapes, only to flee the scene before they can be identified. Now the small town of Haddley is abuzz with rumours. Was this an accident, or arson?

Then a skeleton is found in the burnt-out foundations.

And when the identity of the victim is revealed, Ben is confronted with a crime that is terrifyingly close to home. As he uncovers a web of deceit and destruction that goes back decades, Ben quickly learns that in this small town, everybody has something to hide.

Excellent story. A must read.

Well written plot which keeps you thinking until the end. The final caught me out. Well read with voices of each character just as I imagined. Looking forward to book three. Need to go and obtain book one.

Little disappointing

After listening to the first book, the day before this, I have to admit, I was quite disappointed. It’s clearly going to be part of a series and I will give the next book a try. One of the characters, I think called Sam, (an older journalist) had the most irritating voice.

There was also a church in it, that was right at the centre of the neighbourhood when in fact, it hadn’t even been mentioned in the first book. And I thought if it was that central that you couldn’t avoid seeing it, it would’ve been mentioned. That’s just nitpicking and is neither here nor there but I found it irritating possibly because I wasn’t enjoying the whole book due to the farcical character above.

Eleven liars

Entertaining, enjoyed the follow up to 12 liars, well written. There’s also material for another in the series.

Silver becomes Gold

I thought Eleven Liars was actually better than Twelve Secrets. More realistic with lots of plot twists. Already looking forward to the next book ‘10 ……’

Best who done it story for a long time

I listen to and read a lot of books, very often crime fiction. This was a book that for the first time in a very long time I didn't find predictable. The characters were real and believable , the story lines heartbreaking but really good insights into being human. excellently written and crafted book and the narrator very well chosen, with a strong but sensitive voice, very easy to listen to and wonderfully good at characters voices, you believed each person was themselves. something that is important to me personally was the narrator, male, could do women's voices so well they were individual and fitted the characters personality none of the affected female voice representations I've heard before in audio books, excellent all round !

Entertaing drama but definitely don't move to this village!

I listened to this directly after the first novel and probably enjoyed it a little more. I was very sorry to hear the added difficulties the poor residents of this small outer London village had to suffer. No spoilers, but this would make a great TV drama, if only for "that" vicar scene. If you listen you'll understand the one I mean!

Gripping

This is the second book of the Ben Harper mysteries. Absolutely love it. I always think I know things and theories but everything gets blown out the water at the end. Awesome style of writing and Robert is a matter of writing.
