Great for a full overview of everything historically/mythology Egyptian in one package.
I’ll start with the likes:
- narrator has a clear voice and enunciates well
- very thorough description of history behind all the lore and mythology, where they came from source wise and any details regarding the translation accuracies
- great for a complete overview of everything relating to the Egyptian period, truly a great introduction to see what areas interest you
- very expansive, covering a very wide array of the myths and legends pertaining to the Egyptian deities and their interrelated tales
- logical structure beginning with the history of the founder of the information and their life, through to the current recorded history of Egypt including its politics, wars and conquests and how it was shaped and formed and ruled throughout the ages, then moving onto the myths legends and ultimately the book of the dead
Dislikes:
- despite being very clear, the narrator seemed to be consistent in delivery throughout, which is great for the factual side, but with the myths and legends I would have preferred a bit more theatrics to recant the tales
- the history included dates is stated as complete fact, with no mention on the contentions and debates going on in the field of ancient Egypt with people speculating it’s much older, and the pyramids function is similarly not given the more open possibilities that are also more debated
- there is a lot of information before each tale describing in detail the origin and history of the documentation. Interesting stuff, but it can break up the flow if you just want to hear the myths and legends without constant breaks between about how the next bit was discovered. I like it, but would also like a potential optional edited version where you can just listen to the myths and tales
