About this listen

As Hercule Poirot sifts through his post one particular morning, he alights upon a letter from an elderly and (as it transpires), exceedingly rich spinster - Miss Emily Arundell. She is clearly in great distress and seeking his help, but doesn’t say why. Her only specific mention is ‘the incident of the dog’s ball’. However, what intrigues Poirot is the date of the communication - it was written two months ago. He persuades Captain Hastings that they must visit the lady with all haste.

On arrival they discover that she has died, apparently of natural causes. But Bob, Miss Arundell’s devoted wire-haired terrier, knows better. And so, soon, does Poirot. John Moffatt, as ever, stars as Hercule Poirot and Simon Williams as Captain Hastings. With music specially composed by Tom Smail.

Another excellent performance from John Moffatt

Would you listen to Dumb Witness (Dramatised) again? Why?

Yes I would. It is a great story and the performance brings to life the story as well as being fun and exciting.

Have you listened to any of John Moffatt and Simon Williams ’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have listened to quite a few of John Moffatt's performances has Poirot and this one is certainly up to his usual standards. I have heard Simon Williams in The Mysterious Affair At Styles and enjoyed both of his performances as Captain Hastings.

Moffat Is The Perfect Radio Poriot. Excellent Entertainment❤️

This is one of my favourite Christie murders (especially TV version. ) Moffat is perfect for the radio and Simon Williams isn't bad. I am quite a snob when it comes to Hercule because David Suchet is absolute all out perfection for Hercule Poriot. On Radio all of these Moffat radio versions are excellent and I have them all in my collection. Excellent entertainment.

AGATHA CHRISTIE - YOU CAN'T GO WRONG

Good acting as usual but the only thing that irritated me was the hero of the story - Monsieur Bob. The dog barking grated after a while. Apologies to the person who played the part, but you can't please everyone. Other than that, it was excellent as always.
