About this listen

As tattoo artist Star begins to ink her first client on a spring Sunday morning, something goes horribly wrong with the world...

Belfast's hung-over lapse into a deeper sleep than normal, their sudden deaths causing an unholy mess of crashing cars, smouldering televisions and falling aircraft. In the chaotic aftermath a group of post-apocalyptic survivors search for purpose in a devastated city. Ageing DJ Sean Magee and shifty-eyed Barry Rogan find drunken solace in a hotel bar. Ex-IRA operative Mairead Burns and RIR soldier Roy Beggs form an uneasy alliance to rebuild community life. Elsewhere, a mysterious Preacher Man lures shivering survivors out of the shadows with a promise of redemption.

Choked by the smell of death, Ireland's remaining few begin the journey toward a new life, fear and desperation giving rise to new tensions and dark old habits. But a new threat creeps slowly out of life's wreckage...

Brief review

An apocalyptic tale. Full of gore zombies and the odd sexual reference. I would like to say I enjoyed it, but really, I could have spent my time more wisely. Not great

Not your average zombie book

Would you listen to Drop Dead Gorgeous again? Why?

Very engaging characters, very good narration, different twist on the style of book

What did you like best about this story?

totally different approach to the zombie story, based in northern Ireland gave it a totally different edge

What does Melanie MacHugh bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

A break from the American/English narrators, totally refreshing and suited the book perfectly

Any additional comments?

If you are looking for a refreshingly different take on the genre with good narration and involving characters, give this a go. The follow up is knock out and brutal, excellent.
