About this listen
Detective Parker DuPont turned in his letter of resignation (he forgot to tell his wife) and is just weeks away from officially hanging his PI shingle when he catches his first case. At first, he thinks it’s a joke being played upon him by a colleague jokester. It is certainly not a joke.
Charlie Porter was struck by a golf ball and killed on the sixth fairway of a Riverview, Florida, golf course. Accidental death by golf ball, it is ruled. But there are no witnesses, nor does anyone come forward to fess up to being the individual who hit the ball. Charlie’s wife at first believes it was not an accident but payback for crimes committed decades before. She soon recants, claiming simple ravings of a distraught widow. Charlie’s employer, however, chooses to go forward with the investigation, directing Parker to find the answers. Was it accidental? If not, who was the killer? What is Mrs. Porter really hiding? And who the heck is Parker’s partner, ex-Secret Service agent Stormy Stine? A grandmother looking for work?

"This is sure to be a headline grabber."
When Charlie does on the golf course after he ing been hit in the head by a golf ball, his death is pronounced accidental. But his family think otberwise, so His empoyers, a Solar power company, ask about-to-go-private detective.Parker DuPont to look into it. His first independent job! Despite the somewhat convoluted aspects of the investigation itself, this is much more a book about family and relationships, family and loss, and whilst not being in any way lighthearted, does have it's humorous moments. The characters, especially that of DuPont himself, are well drawn and there is almost a sense of reality to the interactions and the investigation itself.
An enjoyable book well read by Josiah Bildner. His gentle drawl seems to perfectly encapsulate the character of Parker DuPont and his other character voices are distinct, too. His narration is well modulated, maintaining interest as he lopes along: the increasing frustration and tiredness of the protagonist being skillfully passed on to the reader. A good performance.
I did enjoy this book very much, it was good fun: so many thanks to the rights holder of Driven by Death, who, at my request freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. I will watch out for more from this author in the future.

Exceptionally good listen.
I loved this book, I thought it a little slow at the start but once it got going it was fast paced and rivetting. I couldn't put it down. The characters are great and well developed, I particularly like Parker and Stormy of course and Parkers little sister Randy Lee was brilliant. The narration seemed a bit strange at first but that too really took off later in the book and was superb, Josiah John Bildners ability to create unique silly voices for some of the characters was great. I look forward to listening to more narrations from him and also will be keeping an ear open for more of James Paddocks books. Exceptional Read... *****
