About this listen

An international best seller which has sold over a million copies in the UK, Dreams from My Father is a refreshing, revealing portrait of a young man asking big questions about identity and belonging.

The son of a Black African father and a white American mother, Obama was only two years old when his father walked out on the family. Many years later, he receives a phone call from Nairobi: his father is dead. This sudden news inspires an emotional odyssey for Obama, determined to learn the truth of his father's life and reconcile his divided inheritance.

Written at the age of 33, nearly 15 years before becoming president, Dreams from My Father is an unforgettable story. It illuminates not only Obama's journey but also our universal desire to understand our history and what makes us who we are. Narrated by Barack Obama, this new edition brings to audiobook listeners the originally published text, as intended by the author.

Good listen.

This is a very good book. Written before he became president of the USA it gives an insight into his life and journey to the white house.

The very unlikely story of our modern age

The updated stories in this journey make it more surreal. Always feels fresh listening to Mr President Obama.

Loved it. Great read even better being read by Barack himself and told without judging anyone throughout.

Great book orated by an even greater writer and story-teller

Obama’s oration belies the intensity of the book and sometimes the pain that he communicates.
Everyone should get this book. He represents humanity not just black nor just white or even mixed race people.
He is one of us! Inspiring book.

Twice read

I enjoyed Obama reading this book so much that I read it twice in case I had missed part of it during the night! I thought the last few chapters relating to Kenya were of particular interest as it was less well known . His voice was so clear and easy to listen to, so I would definitely recommend reading or listening to this fine book.

Rich

Such a rich narrative placing himself at the centre yet bringing so many more along the story based on that, that makes them the centre, his centre too.
