About this listen
No matter how far she rides, she can’t escape her past....
Yanna Gray has settled into Ragondian life as a Stonehaven student. Deep down she knows she is destined to become a rider trainee.… And her dragon bond feels it as well. But Yanna is torn between focusing on her riding or magecraft, unsure of the right path. Choosing a discipline is the hardest decision she’s ever faced.
Until a secret from her past on Earth places all of Ragond in jeopardy....
Deadly accidents plague the realm. A shimmering new bridge inexplicably collapses. Then a dam tragically crumbles into dust. All without a trace of magic. A devastating dissonance between worlds threatens the very existence of those Yanna has grown to love and respect. Now, she must decide if family means more than just flesh and blood.
Before her new home, and everyone in it, crumbles to dust....

just loved it, but it doesen't really end in this
I love when dragons, magical portals, wizards and witches from fantastic worlds intertwine with the human world. Diversity is not always accepted and those who are not educated to hold on to these values find it difficult to see the opportunities that present themselves.
The performance doesn't always project the emotions of the story

16 year old female heroine switches it up.
This is the second book in the series featuring Yanna who is attending Stonehaven, a school for witches, mages and dragon riders. This is despite being from Earth and her former background. Some of the outcomes from the first book are revealed here, so probably best to consume them in series order, but I can see this would also work as a standalone and entry to the series.
The author does not spare Yanna from conflict, peril and moral dilemmas. Her inital problem is choosing between magic and dragon riding as her major. A good female friend is the attraction for magic and an older boy showing an interest in her is the dragon riding draw. I won't spoil it by telling you which she chooses. Through her studies and other encounters we learn about the types of magic, their limitations and special abilities. Divination, healing and soul-casting are on the syllabus. We also learn about the manipulation of time, which becomes relevant to protecting the realms outside Earth.
Encountering those who are harming the realm of Mythos creates some answers and further dilemmas for hard-working Yanna. Life lessons and strategies are learned vicariously through her struggles. In a short space of time , we witness her transformation. It is epic length and I struggled at times to keep the uses of magic, tokens and ages of characters straight in my head.
The narrator gives clear cues as to when a dragon, man or narration is happening, but adding accents to some characters may better differentiate which amongst the large cast are speaking if no dialogue tags help out.

A powerful YA fantasy world with magic and dragons
This story is an epic YA fantasy adventure perfect for all ages, that features mages, portals, dragons, riders and witch hunters.
It's full of action and adventure, with dragon racing, insights into the academy and all the different types of magic that can be learnt, including new skills that Yanna has an affinity for.
Yanna is strong and resilient but has many difficult choices to make in how she will shape her life going forward, as well as escape her difficult past.
The narrator embodies the different characters so well, and portrays their feelings with ease so that your drawn into the story. This was easy to listen to too and get lost into the beautiful story for hours.
With lots of drama and an emotional conclusion looking forward to the next book.
While this is book 2 of a series, it can be listened to as a standalone as you get enough background information to understand the characters and actions.
Highly recommend this audiobook.
