About this listen

The dragon lunged and burned. Ketil felt its hot breath, but he knew it was only a dream. When Sigrid goes to stay on Shapinsay, Ketil is unconcerned – nothing ever happens on Shapinsay. But then the fires start, and it seems that Ketil’s dream has come to life. Will he and Sigrid find the arsonist, before a whole settlement is wiped out forever?

Great story absolutely brilliant narration!.

For anyone familiar with the Orkneyinga (or not) the Orkney islands and the Borough of Birsay this is a particularly enjoyable series. The central characters are well drawn and the Viking detective ‘will they wont they’ dynamic is quite enjoyable. The stories have a subtle female focus as the lead character Sigrid is an independent woman which is also enjoyable, there’s no raiding going on though it is alluded to. This book focussed on Dramatic happenings in Shapinsay. The choice of a Scandinavian actor with a lovely voice was an excellent choice if a little odd given the Sigrid is the central figure! It reminds us that in the era the stories are set Orkney was part of Norse territory.
