About this listen

Penguin Classics presents Bram Stoker's Dracula, adapted for listening and available as a digital audiobook as part of the Penguin English Library series. This abridged audio version is read by the actor Richard E. Grant.

"Alone with the dead! I dare not go out, for I can hear the low howl of the wolf through the broken window"

A chilling masterpiece of the horror genre, Dracula also illuminated dark corners of Victorian sexuality. When Jonathan Harker visits Transylvania to advise Count Dracula on a London home, he makes a horrifying discovery. Soon afterwards, a number of disturbing incidents unfold in England: an unmanned ship is wrecked at Whitby; strange puncture marks appear on a young woman's neck; and the inmate of a lunatic asylum raves about the arrival of his 'Master', while a determined group of adversaries prepares to face the terrifying Count.

Part of a collection of vintage recordings taken from the Penguin Archives, the Penguin English Library series offers affordable, collectable, quality productions that are perfect for on-the-go listening.

Apt companion for a trip to Whitby

Great narration by Richard E Grant. I especially enjoyed his VanHelsing and Mina offering cups of tea. Thoughtfully abridged and easy to listen to.

A classic

It is still as terrifying as my first time reading it, 30 years ago.

brilliantly captivating

I could not stop listening. well done Richard, well read old chap and as for Bram, well there is nothing much to say about his work on dracula, save for it being a masterpiece that reaches an audience many moons after its first print.
