Wanted to enjoy this but....
OK, learning about dog training from an audio book is perhaps a bit of a stretch. There were two pieces of advice in this book that I found difficult.....
1. Firstly the constant referral to 'popping' the dog's lead or collar. A complete novice will have absolutely NO IDEA what this means and there was not a clear explanation. Given that the author's answer to almost any situation was 'pop the collar' this needed to be properly explained. I DO know how to do this but it is something you should be shown rather than read about
2. Her suggestion that you train a puppy for 30 minutes a day (or in two 15 minute stints) is also pushing it a bit. A very young puppy will have nothing like the concentration for 30 minutes or even 15. Literally 5 minutes staggered throughout the day would be better.
Given these two rather basic fundamentals grating with me I kind of lost faith in the author a bit. Maybe it is better as a physical book and maybe there are indeed photos or drawings or diagrams to back up some of the work, so I am only really able to talk about the audio book.
Balanced trainers are rarer than hens' teeth these days and that is why I chose this book, but I would be reluctant to recommend it to a beginner.
