Summary

Six months after a painful breakup from Gordon, Beth’s finally getting her life back on track. She has faith in her scientific theories and is willing to work hard to prove them. And Hibs, her dedicated lab partner, has always held a candle for Beth. So when Gordon arrives back from America without warning, she’s totally thrown.

Will she realise there’s more to life than being bullied by the one who’s meant to love her? Will Beth foresee the explosive nature beneath Gordon’s placid surface before he destroys everything she’s worked for both inside and outside the lab?

all I thought it would be and so much more

I was expecting a romance with science story, and got it!
and then the story got even more complicated.
TW for abuse and sexual assault but also for your day-to-day sexist boss relationship.
Beth is having a hard time standing up for herself again her boss. she's suffering from a breakup and then he comes back! and the horror show starts. well, not really horror. just the reality of so many women in an abusive relationship.
what I love most is the - somewhat simplistic- way we follow Beth's thought process until she realises that she needs to stand up for herself. as a spectator we always say - why didn't she leave him? and here we get to see first hand why.
and this is the main strength of this story on my opinion.
