About this listen
Part dark romance, part fairy tale, DISORDER marks the arrival of bestselling Italian author Rokia, available for the first time in English, in a vibrant translation by Beth Hickling-Moore. The production is voiced by an all-star cast: Diane Guerrero (Orange is the New Black), William Gao (Heartstopper), Freya Allan (The Witcher) and Connor Swindells (Sex Education.)
Meet Olivia, Sia, Derek and Edgar. Four young people scarred by self-harm, anorexia and PTSD, each of them searching for a way to heal. Brought together by an unorthodox doctor, their friendship becomes instrumental as they battle their respective demons. Through a series of increasingly demanding challenges set by prestigious media company GNN, deliberately chosen to make them face their pasts, their friendship becomes a key part of how they learn to process their pain. As their relationships grow, the past is never too far away, with wounds constantly being re-opened. And while no-one will remain unscathed along the journey of recovery, one thing is for sure: love has the power to mend a bleeding heart.
Please note: this production includes descriptions of mental illness, death, child abuse, violence, domestic violence, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, miscarriage and substance abuse.

Absolute chaos in the best way!
Loved the translation - it really captures all the emotions from the original. The cast is incredible too, makes such a difference when you have separate voices for the key characters. I listened to this during my (not so regular) runs, and honestly, it made getting out the door so much easier. Such a dark and twisty listen!

Totally original
There was nothing I disliked. I missed a few twists along the way but it’s a very long story so that’s to be expected, I guess. Will definitely listen again.
All the characters a well written, they’re human, likeable and flawed. The characters interweave nicely, relationships develop naturally. The ‘fairy tale’ aspect helps give a deeper understanding of the mental health issues that each character has.
You may think it’s unusual for a group of friends to all have mental health issues.. but is it? Or is it usually hidden?
I really loved it. Will be looking for more by this author, but I’ll be needing a thoughtless rom com break first.

Hearth warming story
This book shows different perspectives off those who suffer from mental illness. It proves that friendship support and understanding can heal broken souls.

Outstanding
I rarely leave reviews and only started this out of boredom but oh my....what a brilliant story! Gritty, deliciously dark and thought provoking. Characters were amazing and by the end they had become so familiar. Dont expect action packed, but your preconceived ideas and unconscious biases will be spectacularly challenged.

Terrific Translation!
This is such a unique and original story, I’ve never read (or heard) anything quite like it! A great blend of romance, realism and fantastical folk-lore-like elements, and a fascinating way of exploring trauma and tense interpersonal relationships which evolve in unpredictable ways.
The translator has done an incredible job of rendering it into English from the original Italian - so slick and stylish and natural sounding - and the performers all inhabit their roles brilliantly, delivering the different attitudes of the various characters with their individual perspectives and vulnerabilities. I would have had no idea that it wasn’t written in English to begin with. I hope there’s more from this author being made available for an English readership/listenership soon - I can’t wait for the next one! I’ll also be keeping my eye out for other books translated by Beth Hickling-Moore!
Great work everybody!
