About this listen

A neurodivergent's guide to embracing your true self and finding your happily ever after.

Growing up, Chloé Hayden felt like she'd crash-landed on an alien planet where nothing made sense. Eye contact? Small talk? And why are you people so touch-oriented? She moved between 10 schools in 8 years, struggling to become a person she believed society would accept, and was eventually diagnosed with autism and ADHD. When a life-changing group of allies showed her that different did not mean less, she learned to celebrate her true voice and find her happily ever after.

This is a moving, at times funny story of how it feels to be neurodivergent as well as a practical guide, with advice for living with meltdowns and shutdowns, tips for finding supportive communities and much more.

Whether you're neurodivergent or supporting those who are,  Different, Not Less will inspire you to create a more inclusive world where everyone feels like they belong.

Chloé Hayden is an award-winning actor and disability advocate, motivational speaker and social media influencer whose story of being 'different, not less' has attracted a worldwide following. She stars as Quinni in Heartbreak High, the Netflix remake of the iconic Australian series.

This is a brilliant book and I think everyone should read it, not only does Chole share her story in an honest vulnerable way, she gives so much information. I listened to this, originally to see if I could get more information about growing up autistic as my son is in the process of being diagnosed, but I also realised that Chloe faced a lot of the same experiences as I did growing up (undiagnosed) , and has made me feel understood in a way I didn't think I would ever experience. She has such a wonderful way of story telling and I love that her work is accessible and easy to understand. It's such a nice change to read about neurodivergence written by someone who is actually autistic.

Might be my new favourite book

It was really great to relate to the experiences of someone else with autism and have that idea that your brain does just work differently to other people and there were moments I got a bit emotional about it. The thing I kinda struggled with as the disney analogies and it could just be I am an overall fairly cynical person but yeah just struggled with some of the very apparent optimism but that is more of a me issue than maybe of the book. It was the first book I read about any form of neurodiversity since being diagnosed with ASD and ADHD and definitely in a frame of mind that the two are quite disabling together so finding other people who have these diagnoses is really helpful.
The audio aspect was really great and the sound quality was also fab.

Overall really interesting

Chloe is a hero for those who are different. She articulates in a very entertaining fashion what it is like to grow up as an autistic person and the challenges we face. Some of her storytelling moved me to tears. A great book.

Excellent Book - A Living Hero

As an autistic person I loved this book. Although I don’t agree with all of it, as experienced as different it puts into words how you can feel as a person with autism. Will be buying the book.

Thank you Chloe
