Summary
Katherine Cole thought her fiancé was the perfect man - until he turned out to be the perfect killer. He left his victims stabbed through the heart holding a telltale single red rose and was deemed the Valentine Killer. Three years ago he vanished. Now he’s back. And he’s hunting the one who got away.
In New Orleans, Katherine dared to hope she was finally safe, yet somehow he found her. This time, Katherine won’t just sit silently by; she’ll do anything to stop the monster she once loved, even trust the sexy cop promising to keep her safe.…
Detective Dane Black never lets his emotions interfere with the job, even as the Valentine Killer surfaces in New Orleans to stalk his prey. But when Dane agrees to protect the killer’s ex-fiancée, he can’t ignore the passion kindling between them. After a single unforgettable night binds them body and soul, Dane won’t rest until Katherine is safe in his arms - and the Valentine Killer is dead.

A dark but brilliant story.
OMG! This story is enthralling from beginning to end. If you like suspense the will keep you on the edge of your seat, you will enjoy this book. However, there is violence and manipulation that is very descriptive so read with caution. I love the way brilliance audio did the story. I really enjoyed listening to it.

Very good
There is one thing, that comes between the moment of life and death: knowing how to make a choice, at the right time.

Great story with lots of twists
This was my first story by CE and it's safe to say it won't be my last! The characters are well rounded and 3-dimensional, even the killer is more than just a pure evil. Not that he isn't evil, but there's a depth to him that's often missing. His feelings for Katherine are real, though as twisted as the rest of his psyche.
Katherine is both fragile and strong. She has scars from her past, both mental and physical, but she won't let herself run if it means other people will be hurt. She also has the courage to learn to trust again, despite the horror she's experienced. Dane also carries the scars from his past and has risen above them to become a good cop and honourable man. There's a symmetry between the three of them, that shows variations on the path taken after a traumatic childhood. I genuinely liked Dane and Katherine and the growing relationship between them is well done and feels right. The story itself had multiple twists, some of which I saw coming and others I didn't.
The narration is passable, but not great, especially when Dane is speaking.
