About this listen

After bonding with Dawnbringer, the Sacred Sword of Light, Keras Selyrian travels to the nation of Edria to compete in the Tournament of the Sacred Sword. The winner of the tournament will be given a chance to fight for the Sacred Sword of Stone if they can defeat the current wielder, the impossibly powerful Emperor of Edria, in single combat.

Winning the tournament will be no simple endeavor. To succeed, Keras will have to face representatives from every nation, other foreign travelers of great skill, his own allies, other sacred sword wielders...and even a familiar face from his past.

But the tournament itself won't be the only challenge.

When tournament contestants are found dead, Keras discovers the telltale signs of a familiar type of enemy - one that even his own formidable powers might fail to match.

Author's note: This book is designed to set the foundation for plot and character arcs for several books to come, and this means that by necessity, there will be a number of elements introduced in this book that aren't resolved by the end. This is intentional, but it may not work for all listeners. If you prefer stories that feel self-contained, you may be best waiting for at least one more book to come out to listen to them back-to-back.

fantastic follow up, and a great standalone

Rowe writes such interesting and bombastic stories it's a struggle to ever put them down.

Diamantine follows an exciting tournament arc, with mystery abound and interesting tests throughout. the follow up to this story is sure to be nothing but satisfaction for all of the dangling mysteries left by the end

an easy 5/5 for the story and Nick Pohdel's performance

Wow!

The biggest thing I love about Andrew Rowes writing is his ability to pace the story. I’ve now listened to all Arcane Ascension, all War of Broken Mirrors and now all Weapons and Wielders currently on Audible. I can confidently say that this happens to be probably my favourite series so far and this book is a fantastic addition to the first in the series. I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here!

Of course Nick yet again does a wonderful job of not only narrating and bringing the characters to life with passion and emotion - but also giving the book a personality. Competently narrating is one thing, but making a book feel iconic and managing to set a scene with your voice alone is something else completely. I couldn’t imagine a better narrator and it’s always such a pleasure to listen!

easy listen

the story is formulaic and one dimensional. that being said it is entertaining and easy to listen to.
Lacks real character depth or emotional investment. that being said, if you're looking for hack and slash this will deliver

Actually quite good.

I usually find side stories and spin offs to be a bit of a let down to the main line story, but in this case it was genuinely entertaining.

The whole book is essentially one of the main characters telling a story and every now you're gently reminded of that fact. It worked quite well.

On to narration; it's Nick Podehl, not much more needs to be said.

Can't wait for more of my favourite trio

A compelling novel with a lot of fantastic worldbuilding!

Andrew's unique analytical style presents a world of puzzles and magic, but most importantly, characters who are interested in engaging with the world, even if that is often with bizarre shows of violence.

Genuinely relatable characters, LGBT+ rep and great depictions of neurodiversity in a high fantasy world that you just want to get Iseki'd into.

A departure from the other series, the charismatic if somewhat repressed swordsman from afar let's us see the world with new eyes. Brash and bold, but deeply respectful of life, our hero brings such a warm feeling to the world. The trope of himbo overpowered swordsman falls apart to a treatise on what it means to fight and take lives, in a genre that often has hero's display unimaginable violence and not lose sleep after it.

The way Andrew writes love, friendship and relationships of all kinds really speaks to me, and this book is an excellent example of that.
