Hammond Innes last published work - a good read
Hammond Innes last published work which neatly intertwines the themes of adventure and seafaring references common to much of his work. Excellently narrated by Stephen Thorne the action starts in Romania in the dying throws of the Ceacescu communist regime and continues in the Himalayas. Whilst there is a thread joining these two sections of the book it is somewhat tenuous and at the end of the day fails to deliver to the quality of much of the author's previous work. the concept of an underground kingdow in the Himalayas populated by a group of Viking decendants fails to convince and the linking Romania orphan lacks any three dimensional quality. One has the feeling that a good idea for a setting, the fall of communism in Romania, was meged with a separate idea to create one whole. Attention is kept throughout not least by Thorne's narration but in te end the work fils to fully deliver and the denouement is a disappointment.

An interesting and exciting listen
Bought for my husband who enjoys Innes books. He finished it in two days and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sadly this is the last book Audible so will now have to look for another author. Narration is good

Rambling epic
Well read, but what a ridiculous story. Did Hammond Innes make it up as he went along?
