Summary
Packed with hideous nightmares, walking corpses, last-minute escapes, blood-sucking ghouls, and even true love, Necroscope: Defilers will more than satisfy any Brian Lumley fan!
Jake Cutter is reluctantly learning how to be a Necroscope - how to use the Mobius continuum to travel instantaneously from place to place, how to talk to the dead - but dead humans don't like him much. It seems Jake's got a hitchhiker named Korath. Since Korath holds the key to the Mobius equations, Jake can't just kick him out....though he's certainly trying.
Jake's not sure he really wants to be a member of E-Branch, the super-secret, ESP-powered organization that's dedicated to eradicating the vampire infestation of Earth. To the freewheeling, passionate Jake, the E-Branchers seem a little stuffy and hidebound - except for the lovely Liz, whom Jake wants to get to know better, body and mind. But Liz is a telepath, and if Jake's not careful, she'll find out about Korath. And that will likely be the end of Jake Cutter.
In Australia, Jake helped E-Branch destroy the aerie of the mind-master, Nephtam Malinari - one of a trio of Great Vampires who came to Earth from the vampire world. Malinari escaped and went to ground with the hideously beautiful Lady Vavara. Vavara has taken over a holy monastery on a beautiful Greek island and turned the nuns into the most unholy creatures, with fearsome appetites for all things carnal.
Jake wants revenge against the Italian mobsters who killed the woman he loved and nearly killed him. As far as he's concerned, E-Branch can search for Malinari, Vavara, and the metamorphic Lord Szwart without him, until he's satisfied his own bloodlust. But, it seems vampire hunting is truly Jake's job now - the men he's trying to kill aren't men at all, but vampire spawn, hidden for two generations in human guise! To defeat them, Jake will need every weapon in a Necroscope's arsenal, including the power to pull all the unsleeping dead out of their moldering graves.

Another Great Piece of The Necroscope Story
I really enjoyed the latest story in the Necroscope series. As with his previous books in the series, Brian Lumley has e-Branch fighting more Vamphyri.
He also developed Jake Cutters character as the new Necroscope.
Once again Joshua Saxon made the characters come to life, in his narration.
At the end, the audiobook leaves us with more questions than answers. So I can’t wait for the next instalment.

Another Epic Necroscope Book Superbly Narrated
I loved the first book in the E-Branch series (Invaders), but this one is even better! Lumley's books always have great characters and intricate plots. Defilers is no exception. It is the perfect mix of characterisation, intrigue and action.
Joshua Saxon is without doubt the definitive Lumley narrator. I've read Defilers before, but hearing it performed by Saxon takes the storytelling to a whole new level.
Another superb presentation from Crossroad Press. Can't wait for E-Branch: Avengers!!!

Incredible
The E-Branch trilogy are my favorite books of the whole Necroscope universe and to have them performed by the extraordinarily talented Joshua Saxon is the dream. Couldn't recommend these books highly enough!

Cutter keeps his edge!
While Invaders focussed slightly more on the new carrier of the Necroscope mantle, Jake Cutter, Defilers leans a little more into giving us time with our antagonists. And I loved every second of it.
It's quite something when you're 12 books into a series and still introducing compelling new villains. The Necroscope series is defined by a series of powerful, deadly and horrifying baddies and here in the 13th instalment of the vampire fantasy spy series we're solidifying our understanding of the latest trio to threaten our world: a master manipulator psychic master vampire who can leech your knowledge with a touch, an ruthless horror hag who projects an euphoric field of illusion around her so that we see her as the most beautiful woman imaginable, and an indescribable constantly shape shifting inhuman thing made of shadows.
These creatures as described by Lumley and performed by Saxon (I will repeat my earlier observation that Lumley and Saxon is the finest pairing of Author and Narrator since Stephen King first read Stephen King) are mesmerisingly horrid and it's a huge amount of fun watching our familiar friends at E Branch joust with them.
It's another 5 our of 5 for me. The Necroscope series was my much needed escape into another world when lock down hit and it's remained my current favourite genre fiction series. I can't wait to enjoy Avengers.
