About this listen

Colonial Mining Authority agent Natalia Hallowell doesn't always play by the rules, but she wouldn't compromise a case, either. Put on administrative leave under a cloud of accusation, with no support from her boss, Natalia seeks a little anonymous companionship at her favorite bar. But she's surprised when the woman who catches her fancy starts buying her drinks.

Desperate, Genevieve "Gennie" Caine has no choice but to seduce, drug, and tie Natalia to the bed to get her attention. With the Reyes Corporation after something she has, Gennie needs Natalia to open an investigation and distract them long enough for her to get off Nevarro.

Natalia doesn't trust Gennie - despite the growing attraction between them - but the corporation's suspiciously high profits and abnormal business dealings convince her that they must be hiding something. She has no idea just how deep the deceptions run....

Enjoyed!

Quite slow to get going but worth holding out for. The characters are well developed and the story feeds the imagination.

Okay but hard to connect with

For me it was hard to connect to this story, I listened and half glazed over the first part of it, not really sure what it was about, and it seemed kinda dark, so debated if I would enjoy it at all, in fact I left it on my phone for months until I ran out of other stories then came back to it. I think that it took a while to describe and develop the characters in a why I understood at the start. It was not until a third in that I started to be okay with it and happy to listen on. Its kinda a Sci fi story, detective/romance, but none of these stand out on there own as the main thread. some times that works. But I know from music creation, the best advice they give is to turn up the mix on the track which you want to bring out and all the others down. If you do that your song will always be good. I think here with this novel it suffered from not picking out the main thing it wanted to move forward from the start. It was not until much later in the story that the romance comes out, and I could get behind that part of the novel. I should say the Scifi elements in this are okay and at the right level not dominating the story. Its an okay story. I would check out others my the author but be a bit more careful before purchasing.

Only editing lets it down.

Forget that this is a Sci-Fi story. That is only the background and is done is such a way that it doesn't become bogged down by too much techno babble, which could have detracted from the overall tale. And the techno babble parts that do take place happen in such a way that it is still easily understood.

This leaves the basic premise of the story. Nothing surprising, but it is not a bad tale by any means. You find yourself caring for the two women as they work together to find the truth. Admittedly the plot is fairly easy to work out, but the author still keeps you engaged in the story right until the end. That means this is a much better aurthor than some.

The narrator does a really good job, indeed she one of the better narrators in the lesbian audio genre, I'd like to hear her do more within the lesbian works out there.

The main let down comes in the form of the engineering editing. Unlike some recordings out there the voice is clear, but the splicing between the editing of the voice is poor and you get odd bouts where the voice is clearer all of a sudden before the splice happens again and it can seem slightly distracting. Mind you, compared to some of the truly awful recordings out there (one sounded like it had been recorded in a barn) I would much rather have this problem. It's not great, but it's certainly not so distracting that I wanted to turn off the story, but that is the reason why I knocked one star off the performance. A shame because it was nothing to do with the narrator herself.

Good story very badly narrated

I liked the story though it was very challenging to listen to the end. from start to finish the flat monotone off the narration was very distracting. There was hardly any changes of inflection in the narrator's voice. The story itself had lots of action and twists and turns though this was not portrayed in the way it was read by the narrator, almost as if she couldn't really be bothered to read it at all. Very disappointing.
