About this listen
I didn't plan on him...or for him.
I didn't plan on anything that had to do with Cal Donovan from Boston.
Meeting him was a complete and utter surprise, taking me completely off guard. I met new people every single day in my line of work, and none of them affected me. Isn't that just the way of things? You could meet a thousand people, and they'd all mean nothing to you, but then you'd meet that one and they suddenly meant everything.
I was a self-professed workaholic. When did making yourself your number-one priority become such a horrible thing? I wasn't entirely sure, but I learned fairly quickly after my last breakup that men don't like being second on a woman's priority list. And they seemed to be intimidated by a motivated female, calling me things like hard to handle, challenging, and difficult.
Being single seemed to work best for me, and I didn't plan on changing my relationship status anytime soon.
But then I met Cal.
And he f***ing ruined everything.

Enjoyable
I got into this book right from the start, all the way to the end. Easy to listen to with great narration from both. I’ll be looking to listen to more books by this author.

Ok story. Narrators we’re ok, little rushed.
Story was easy listening. Nothing thrilling and you could rush to the epilogue to get the whole gist if you so wished. But, it wasn’t offensive and if you fancy a nice easy listening book give it a whirl.

Nice easy listen
Really enjoyed the story, easy listen that flowed nicely and kept you intrigued. definitely usedthe right narrators, love Jason Clarkes voice and theway he narrators his character. I think Tammy should get her own story too though as I think thesassy lawyers story would be really good.

A wonderful story and Jason and Erin were great narrators. Thank you
I loved the story line with so much detail and the way the breakup brought the emotional, anger and heartbreaking situation that long distance relationships could end. I look forward to another book by J Sterling a great author.

Great story
Liked the pace of the story and kept me engaged throughout. Not too much angst which was a relief.

Way too tepid with a-lot of moral opining
This had some decent ingredients that made me think that there was some serious potential. The first two or three chapters totally fulfilled my expectations (apart from capitalistic, work-obsessed MCs which… sorry… it is so not my thing). But then it was just… dull. Even the steamy scene was dull and felt super emotionless.
The initial intensity was increasingly replaced by pragmatism throughout the story. The conflict was harsh without a really satisfying resolution, example: we get to the epilogue and there was an undertone of tepidity that just made all the “love” and “happiness” feel monotone and robotic. And to top it all off, I did not appreciate the emphasis on Jules’ approach to intimacy because—while I share similar feelings—there was an undertone of judgement towards people who do not feel how Jules does. That whole thing plus Cal’s attitude toward the female gender?… it culminated in some pretty intense open and internalized misogyny vibes I could not get down with. And also, so everyone in this little universe thinks you’re a vapid, unintelligent, deadbeat if you don’t live for work? Corporate grind or bust? Tell me how you really feel J. Sterling.
I dunno. This did not work for me, even with the narration (Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke were great). Will not be reading/listening to more of this author. Thank goodness it was on the plus catalogue!

I didn’t like the main characters
Thought the plot developed soooo slowly, and I hated the main character and his choices - that did not help.
Had trouble seeing this through to the end

DNF
The book started well but just petered out mid way. Just not enough story to hold my interest. Off the back of another review, I skipped to the epilogue and really didn’t feel I’d missed the last 1/2 of the book. (I listened as part of audible plus, so was a free book for me). Shame because I really liked The Fisher Brothers series by same author; No Bad Days, Guy Hater, Adios Pantalones.
