Summary

The third and final gritty Newcastle-set crime thriller in this acclaimed trilogy about a PTSD-suffering veteran turned sleuth in the face of local villainy. It follows two highly praised titles, The Man on the Street, which won the CWA New Blood Dagger, and One Way Street.

A group of vigilantes are carrying out a campaign of harassment against the homeless, hounding them both verbally and physically to get them off the streets. Jimmy Mullen is approached by his friend Gadge, who wants to confront the people behind it, but Jimmy has finally got his life back on track. He's working at a hostel for 18- to 25-year-olds, and he's reluctant to get involved in anything dodgy.

Gadge decides to go it alone but is attacked by two of the vigilantes. The police find him unconscious in an alley, covered in blood. Problem is, there's a dead body in the alley too, and it's his blood that Gadge is covered in. He's also got the murder weapon in his hand.

Convinced that Gadge has been set up, and feeling guilty that he didn't back him up in the first place, Jimmy returns to the streets to try and find out who's behind his friend's difficulties. Unfortunately, he's about to discover that Gadge has a lot of enemies to choose from.

Excellent voicing of murky murder

The Geordie voices and life on the street perfectly captured in a twisty story with vicious villans and determined street people. The threads of several plots are plaited together with accommodations for urban dystopia and relative justice.

A brilliant and emotional end to the trilogy

Dead End Street kept me up half the night listening to this terrific story so brilliantly narrated.

I love Jimmy, Gadge and Deano so was delighted to be back in their company - and prepared to go with them on any journey or adventure they choose.

Felt VERY emotional by the end. Exactly what I wanted to keep me enthralled during a cold January.

Brilliant listen. Especially for Geordies

What more could you ask for? In this, the 3rd of the Jimmy Mullen "Sherlock Homeless" novels, Trevor Wood mixes clever plotlines with dark humour, surprisingly poignant observations, and a plethora of references local to the Tyne & Wear region, to end up with thoroughly entertaining read/listen.
Highly recommended even for non-Geordies!

excellent characters , very likeable and believable with great back stories.

I liked everything and gutted when I finally finished the trilogy. I am now a big fan of Trevor Wood and tell everyone about his books. David Nellist is the perfect narrator to genuinely capture the true characters and their personalities. I've enjoyed it so much I've actually started to listen to book 1 again. This trilogy has been my best finds on audible.

I hope Sherlock homeless makes a return

Another excellent book. You get attached the characters so well and it’s a real shame when you’ve finished. As I know Newcastle so well it makes it easy to picture every step taken by Jimmy. Simply brilliant.
